SWIM INSTRUCTOR OPENING

The Walla Walla YMCA has immediate openings for Swim Instructors for afternoon and evening lessons.  Focus is on maintaining safe conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas creating a positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement.  After School Counselors

 BFOQ:  Need one male staff and one female staff to supervise children in lockers room preparing for swimming lessons.

 The Walla Walla YMCA currently has two positions open for the After School Program.  We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic people to fill 2 Counselor positions.  Qualities desired include experience with kids aged Kindergarten to 5th grade.  Good communication skills, reliable, takes initiative, kind and nurturing with children.  Timeline for this position is immediate start date through the end of school, June 13.

Position #1:  (MALE) Must be able to work Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 2:00 – 5:30 pm. 

Position #2: (FEMALE) Must be able to work Tuesday, Thursday, 2:00 – 5:30 pm.

Counselors for Teen Summer Day Camp Program

Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment; understand the critical importance of youth safety, responsible decision making and good judgment. The Y values staff who can be a positive role model and exhibit a strong sense of values and character.  Must have enthusiasm for working with teens, possess excellent verbal and non-verbal communication and listening skills and have an outdoor skill set compatible with camp programs and a proven ability and experience working with youth.  Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Must be 21 years or older. Counselors will work Monday through Friday.  Must have clean driving record for transporting teens to various activities.  Counselor’s hours will be scheduled by Camp Director.  The hourly rate for this position based on experience and qualifications.  Application deadline is March 30, 2018.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direction for the children in the classroom, and implements program curriculum, providing a safe and structured environment for learning and developing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with group activities and follow the job list provided by the Lead Pre School Teacher/Child Care Director.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, well-organized and structured environment.
  • Assist children with daily needs (bathroom, lunch, swim, quiet/nap time, etc.)
  • Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards providing a safe environment.
  • Entertain children with songs, games, reading books, etc.
  • Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents and co-workers.
  • Maintain a professional image and reflect the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility at all times.
  • Maintains program site and equipment.
  • Maintains required program records including daily log.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.

Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPECTATIONS:

  1. Ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their environment, social and physical needs.
  2. Be warm, patient and nurturing with children.
  3. Take initiative and be a positive role model.
  4. Show flexibility within your position (includes substituting or assisting as needed).
  5. Be customer service oriented and professional.
  6. Provide excellent customer service.
  7. Communicate well with children, coworkers and families.
  8. Be prompt, committed, and passionate and show responsibility within your position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  3. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training and other required training within 30 days of hire date.
  4. At least one year experience working with children 2-5 years of age. Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  5. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships
    with people from different backgrounds.
