PRESCHOOL TEACHER AIDE

Full-Time Non-Exempt

 

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direction for the children in the classroom, and implements program curriculum, providing a safe and structured environment for learning and developing.

 

Essential Functions (partial listing):

 

  • Assist Lead Teacher and/or Director of Child Development with group activities, follow the job list and implement curriculum provided by the Director of Child Development.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, well-organized and structured environment that meet Health codes and Y Standards.
  • Assist children with daily needs (bathroom, lunch, swim, quiet/nap time, behavior etc.)
  • Entertain children with songs, games, reading books, etc.

LIFEGUARD

Part-Time Non-Exempt

 

The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring that no drowning or other adverse events occur for users of the pool, including the warm therapy pools and on-deck showers and equipment. The Lifeguard maintains constant surveillance of swimming pools during all times the pool is being used by YMCA members, guests,
and/or staff. The Lifeguard promotes and serves as a role model for safe behavior by consistently following and enforcing facility health, safety and other rules and regulations, and responding to and caring for emergencies in and out of the water.

 

Essential Functions (partial listing):

 

  • Follows and enforces YMCA policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines.
  • Understands and adheres to all Lifeguard duties including frequent patrolling of the pool area and lockers.
  • Recognizes and immediately responds effectively to emergencies both in the pool and Y-wide.
  • Ensures the pool deck is monitored during and after emergencies.

GROUP EXERCISE FITNESS INSTRUCTOR

Part-Time Non-Exempt

 

Under the direction of the Wellness Director and the Group Exercise Coordinator, teaches and promotes group fitness classes; monitors areas for safety and cleanliness, and engages members in an enjoyable and positive environment that promotes member wellness in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

 

Essential Functions (partial listing):

 

  • Conducts energizing, fun, and physically appropriate classes in person and via Zoom.
  • Builds positive and professional relationships with members, program participants and other staff members.
  • Instructs participants on safe exercise techniques including, but not limited to, warm-up and cool-down, stretching, cardiovascular exercise, strength training, workout progressions, and proper use of exercise equipment.
  • Clears area of safety hazards, and reports maintenance needs to the Group Exercise Coordinator.

SWIM INSTRUCTOR

Part-Time Non-Exempt

 

Teaches swimming techniques, swimming strokes, and water safety rules to all ages with varying swimming abilities. Assisting more experienced swimmers to enhance their swimming abilities. Assessing the progress of each person. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes participant safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

  • Ensures safety of children in swim lessons program by maintaining surveillance on classes.
  • Communicates efficiently and patiently with students and parents of swim students.
  • Follows established YMCA Aquatic Department/Employee Handbook policies and procedures.

HELP KIDS RECONNECT! SUMMER CAMP JOBS

The YMCA is looking for creative, energetic and dedicated people to join our Summer Reconnect team. This summer the Y will be operating youth programs in Walla Walla, Milton-Freewater and Athena as we help kids ages 3-14 re-connect both socially and emotionally.

You all know the toll COVID-19 social isolation has taken. This is your chance to do something about it! Help break the cycle of learning loss that kids have experienced due to school closures.

We will provide full and half-day summer programs for youth to tap into their creativity, rekindle their energy and re-engage with their peers.

We are recruiting now for people of all abilities and interests to be part of the most vital summer program for children and youth ever! Join an essential youth program as we work together to help kids launch their summer journey!

  • Camp Counselors
