The Y has long been America’s favorite swimming instructor.

Our Aquatics programs focus on drowning prevention through teaching techniques and skills. We offer the opportunity to build friendships, develop confidence, and create positive experiences that will last a lifetime.

The Y's Walla Walla facility offers a 25-meter pool and warm water therapy pools. Additionally, the Y operates pools and provides lessons in communities across the valley, including Milton-Freewater, Athena, and Prescott.

Swim lessons will be available at YMCA-managed pools in Walla Walla, Milton-Freewater, Athena, and Prescott!

Programs listed here may be offered year-round, seasonally, or periodically. Please contact the Y for current availability.

Adult Group Swim Lessons

This class is designed for non-swimmers and beginners. Work with a small group of peers guided by an instructor to overcome fears, develop a sense of comfort in the water and learn beginning swim technique.

 

Children & Adults with Disabilities Swim Lessons

Small group swimming lessons for children and adults with special needs. Swim instructors concentrate on fun, safety, and technique to help participants become the best swimmers possible. 

 

Lap Swim

For Y members age 12 or older, to swim laps in the pool to stay in shape. Circle swim may be required if there are several swimmers in the pool at the same time. Please be courteous to all members and make space for incoming swimmers. 

 

Open Swim

Children age 7 and under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian who is in the water and within arm’s reach of their child(ren) at all times. Children may be accompanied by older family member age 12 years and over, but parent must be present on pool deck area at all times.

 

Parent/Child Swim Lessons

A parent or guardian swims with their child during this instructor-guided lesson. Children learn safety in and around the water as our instructor introduces beginning swim techniques and facilitates a sense of comfort and fun through the use of songs and games. 

 

Preschool Swim Lessons

Beginners will develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water. This lays the foundation that allows for a student’s future progress in swimming. Students learn personal water safety with essential skills in all classes. 

 

Private & Semi-private Swim Lessons

One-on-one swimming lessons for adults and children. Swim instructors concentrate on fun, teaching safety and technique and work with each individual swimmer to customize goals and enhance water experience.

 

School Age Swim Lessons

Students work on refining stroke technique and learning all major competitive strokes. The emphasis on water safety continues through treading water and sidestroke. Students will learn about competitive swimming and discover how to incorporate swimming into a healthy lifestyle. Once students are able to successfully swim a length of the pool unassisted in any of the strokes, they are eligible to register for the Advanced Class. 

 

Veteran Swim

A quiet swim time free for our vets and their spouses.

 

Warm Water Adult Open Swim

For adults who would like a quiet time to exercise and enjoy our facility. Water Walking Open is time to walk and do personal aquatic exercise without instruction.
