Karen HedineChief Executive Officer

Karen returned to her hometown of Walla Walla in 2018 after a successful management career in the Life Sciences sector. She previously worked with entrepreneurial start-up ventures, global Fortune 100 companies, international nonprofits and US and foreign governments all dedicated to advancing products for improved health care, diagnosis, prevention or treatment.

Angela MahaffeyDirector of Human Resources

Angela has worked for the Y for over 8 years. She brings 25+ years of HR experience, including in the public, nonprofit, and education sectors. Prior to the Y, she served as the Human Resource Director for the Intermountain Education Service District and completed certificates in HR from Western Washington University and Portland State University.

Jesse BettsMembership Director

Jesse began at the YMCA in 2015. Born in Red Bluff, California, he has spent most of his life in Walla Walla. With over fifteen years of customer service experience, he brings a strong commitment to team dynamics, with the goal of proactively addressing the needs and expectations of members, guests and coworkers.

Abel HernandezDirector of Special Projects

Abel has been with the YMCA for 18 years. His community involvement has included Board and advisory roles for a number of community programs: including Trilogy Recovery Community, Walla Walla Public Schools, Community Council, and the Gang Study Committee.

Katie SvilichDirector of Child Developement

Katie began her YMCA career in California as a Performing Arts Director, gymnastics and dance teacher in 2003. Katie and her family relocated to Walla Walla in 2015. Her approach to child development has made the Walla Walla Y’s programs among the highest recommended child development programs in the Walla Walla Valley.

Erika MillerDirector of Aquatics & Safety Training

Erika holds American Red Cross certifications as a Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, Water Safety Instructor, and Water Safety Instructor Trainer. She is Aquatic Facility Operator certified. With a background in education, Erika brings to the Y a unique emphasis on water safety education, and excellent training for staff and our community.

Teresa PeasleyDirector of Wellness

Theresa is a National Academy of Sport Medicine (NASM) Master Trainer. She holds a Master’s degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Sports Enhancement and Injury Prevention and certifications from NASM including Certified Personal Trainer, Corrective Exercise Specialist, and Performance Enhancement Specialist. Theresa is certified through the American Sport Education Program and the National Association of Speed and Explosion.

Adam KlingenbergDirector of Youth Programs

Born and raised in Walla Walla, Adam has been involved in team sports his entire life. After graduating and playing football at Western Washington University, Adam moved back to Walla Walla and began working with area youth. He is looking forward to leading the teen program and growing a place where youth can come relax, learn and have fun.
