As you know since COVID-19 first entered our vocabulary, your Y has urged adherence to CDC guidelines to help prevent the spread of disease. Indications are that despite active measures taken to date, communities will see increases in the cases of the virus over the coming days and weeks. Guidance now advises that the best prevention at this time is social distancing.
As a relationship-centered organization, the Y brings people together – large numbers of them, from all backgrounds and circumstances. We believe in connecting people. The nature of this virus, and how it spreads, presents significant challenges to the role we play in helping to strengthen community, especially at a time when people are being advised to keep their distance from each other.
Following a careful assessment of all current information, weighing the needs of our members, staff, and community, we are advising that effective Tuesday, March 17 Walla Walla YMCA facility access and programs are suspended.
We are addressing how best to serve the needs of families with children in pre-school/afterschool as well as those youth in our YCCY program who may have no alternative place to go. We are reaching out to other community organizations and agencies to address childcare needs and appreciate that the school district is also continuing to address this critical issue.
To maximize this time, we are planning to move all facility improvements planned for summer closure week to now. We will be using this critical time to do a further comprehensive cleaning of the facility, including draining and cleaning the pool and making necessary upgrades to our building.
Your continued membership dues provide the financial stability for us to keep our facility open and safe. However, if you would like to put your membership on hold as of April 1st, you can call the Membership Services desk at (509) 525-8863 or e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
VIRTUAL FITNESS CLASSES
We are committed to healthy living. For the adults in our community who rely on the Y for your health and wellness, we are providing access to a Y-USA online virtual exercise program for your use free of charge for the next 60 days. Stay tuned for further information on this free service.
